My name is Freedom. You have spoken about me millions of times; debated and waged war against each other because of me.

I am vague. I am infinite. You cannot touch nor see me. I am so elusive yet you still crave for me.

Then, in the stillness of dawn, you seek for my meaning. Do I really exist?

Yes, I do. I exist in the hearts of people who believe that freedom is not freedom if it would endanger the lives of others. Therefore, I am not there when you wage war against each other. Please don’t mistake me for power. When you fight, what you want is to dominate each other, not to be free of each other.

I exist in the minds of people who do not steal- for stealing is taking the freedom of a person for his property; people who do not enslave or murder another- because these two take a person’s freedom to live; people who do not abuse their power- because this takes away all freedom from a human being.

If I am not any of these, what am I?

I am the light that glows in your eye when you speak out for the betterment of others. I am the fire that burns in your heart when you reach out to help others. I am there when you protect your freedom without offending your brother.

My name is Freedom. You don’t have to look far to get me. I am there in your heart, so set me free.
